Itinerary
Accommodation: Adventure Hotel Geirland or similar
Driving Distance: About 300km, ~ 5 hours
Your 3-day tour begins with the famous Golden Circle, visiting Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the historic Alþingi, the rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, and scenic Þingvallavatn lake. Next, explore the Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur erupts boiling water up to 25 m high, followed by the powerful Gullfoss waterfall cascading in two tiers with golden mist. Driving south toward Seljalandsfoss, enjoy views of Mount Hekla before reaching the waterfall, where you can walk behind the cascade. Overnight is in South Iceland, offering a chance to catch the Northern Lights in season (Sept-April).
Accommodation: Adventure Hotel Geirland or similar
Meal: Breakfast
Driving Distance: About 200km, ~ 3 hours
In the morning, we head east to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, where icebergs drift from Vatnajökull Glacier to the Atlantic and glisten on black sand, often accompanied by seals and seabirds. From there, we visit Skaftafell Nature Reserve for a glacier hike on Vatnajökull Glacier and explore a natural ice cave—in winter months we enter seasonal caves, while in summer we visit the Katla Ice Cave near Vík—guided by a certified expert who explains the ice formations and provides photo opportunities of the magical blue ice. Overnight is in the Skaftafell area, a great base for Northern Lights in September–April.
Meal: Breakfast
Driving Distance: About 300km, ~ 5 hours
After breakfast, we drive back toward Reykjavík with several stops along the way. If roads allow, we detour to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, then visit the iconic Eldhraun lava field before reaching Reynisfjara black beach, where you can explore the basalt columns of Reynisdrangar and the black basalt cave while observing the powerful Atlantic waves. Next, we stop at Skógafoss, a 60 m waterfall with panoramic views from the top and, weather permitting, glimpses of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The tour concludes with a return to Reykjavík in the late afternoon between 16:00 – 19:00 (4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.), depending on the conditions.
