Accommodation: Hotel Borgarnes or similar
Driving Distance: About 220 km, ~ 4.5 hours
Begin your day with a 9:00 a.m. pick-up from Reykjavik and set off toward the legendary Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called “Iceland in Miniature.” Discover the Viking roots of Borgarnes, marvel at the dramatic Gerðuberg basalt columns, and spot seals basking on the golden sands of Ytri Tunga.
Continue to the charming hamlet of Búðir, framed by lava fields and open skies, before enjoying a lunch stop at Arnarstapi, where rugged cliffs and the iconic Gatklettur stone arch meet the crashing Atlantic. For an extra adventure, descend into the ancient Vatnshellir Lava Cave, an 8,000-year-old underground world straight out of a novel.
The journey unfolds along wild coastlines to the Lóndrangar cliffs and the haunting black sands of Djúpalónssandur Beach, scattered with shipwreck remains. End the day in Borgarnes, with a chance to witness the magical Northern Lights in winter, weather permitting.
Meal: Breakfast
Driving Distance: About 420 km, ~ 7 hours
After breakfast, travel to the iconic Mount Kirkjufell, one of Iceland’s most photographed landmarks, made famous by Game of Thrones, with a nearby waterfall completing the classic view.
Continue to Grundarfjörður for a short refreshment stop before visiting the beautiful Hraunfossar Waterfalls, where you’ll enjoy lunch surrounded by striking scenery. The journey then leads to Reykholt, home of medieval scholar Snorri Sturluson, followed by a visit to Sturlureykir Horse Farm, where you can meet friendly Icelandic horses and learn about geothermal-powered farm life.
Nearby, experience the dramatic Deildartunguhver Hot Spring, Europe’s most powerful, before returning to Reykjavik at around 6:00 p.m.
